On this page there are several sections regarding common problems that may occur in your game. They refer mostly to technical issues such as connection problems, pk3 conflictions, and more. You can click each of the headings below to find out how to fix that issue. If there is an issue you want help with, be sure to visit the Contact Page and send an email to either Gung or Basil.
How to prevent maps & mods conflicting
Sometimes when you try and connect to the server, one of your map/mod files (PK3s) might conflict and prevent you from joining. Here is how you solve this issue:
1.
Navigate to your Call of Duty directory and enter the uo folder
Your Call of Duty directory will be C:\Program Files\Call of Duty or C:\Program Files (x86)\Call of Duty

On some computers Call of Duty installs in two places, so you might have to check it here C:\Users\yourname\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files (x86)\Call of Duty, make sure to replace yourname with your actual name

If you play with Steam your pb folder will be C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Call of Duty
2.
Find and delete the problematic PK3 file
When you recieve the error in game, it will tell you the name of the PK3 file you have to delete, be sure to remember it
3.
Rejoin the server
The problem may persist if there are several conflictions, though the game will only show one at a time. If this happens you can repeat the steps
Sometimes it can be easier to clear your folder & directory, see the other help tutorial below for that
How to clear your folder (of maps & mods)
1.

2.
Delete all non-essential files
The essential files are pakuo00.pk3 up to pakuo07.pk3, as well as the localised files localized_english_pakuo00.pk3 to localized_english_pakuo02.pk3, and any dll files
Every other file is OK to delete (in the screenshot below, essential files are highlighted red (do not delete), non-essential files are highlighted green (OK to delete))

3.
Restart your game
How to update your PunkBuster files:

4.
If you are having a "Communication Error" download
THIS file and run the executable
5.
If you are still having problems message gung on the
contact page
There are many reasons why one may experience connection problems, with the solution changing dependent of the issue. Some of these are answered below:
1.
Clear any temp files in your uo directory. Temp files are made when a download is started, but these can cause problems. They will be named the same as the PK3 name you attempted to download, but with a random set of characters afterwards and the .tmp file extension.
2.
Clear your uo directory. There is a limit on how many files allowed in there before the game will refuse to download any more. Delete some by following the tutorial above and try again.
If your issue is not answered here, you can contact gung on the
Contact Page
How to fix the brightness settings:
1.
Open the game, you might want to join the server (or run the mod via the Mods option)
2.
Open the console with the ` key (the button left of 1)

3.
Enter the commands seta overbrightbits "1" and seta r_ignorehwgamma "1"
4.
Restart your game
Note that this will only do it for the config file in use, meaning if you open the game and enter it it'll only work if the server you play doesn't use any mods, and you will have to enter the commands again when you load the mod or join that server
How to fix lag:
1.
Go to Options
2.
Go to performance
3.
Change Dynamic Lights to None

Note that the above screenshot shows the option background for the server's mod (as of 15th April 2019), and yours may looks different but the process is the same
